ARTIST STATEMENT

Barb, paints in a contemporary style primarily with encaustic medium.

She likes to create work that is upbeat and positive with bright colors, Interesting linework and textures.

In nature, relationships and human made objects, she finds stories, patterns and colors that inspire and guide her.

Because of its versatility, encaustic combined with other mixed media allows her to respond to these influences in many different ways.

The melted beeswax and resin mixture is not only used as paint but it also has an amazing sculptural quality that allows for many layers of translucent colors that can be carved into and filled with more medium.

The process of creating is what motivates her. “It always surprises and keeps me wanting to try something else, waiting to see what will happen next.”
